Empowerment begins with education. El Grupo Vida’s Empowerment and Learning program equips families and individuals with disabilities with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to become their own advocates and leaders. We believe in the strength of informed families who can stand tall, speak up, and help create a more inclusive future.
At El Grupo Vida, we create spaces for learning, connection, and celebration. Our trainings, workshops, support groups, and cultural activities are designed to strengthen families, uplift youth with disabilities, and build an informed, connected community.
Trainings & Workshops
We offer culturally responsive trainings and workshops for families, caregivers, youth, and professionals. Topics include disability awareness, advocacy and rights, navigating systems, transitions to adulthood, mental health and well-being, and community resources.
Our sessions are offered in Spanish and English and are designed to be accessible, practical, and grounded in real-life experiences.
La Academia
La Academia is a community-based learning and enrichment space for youth with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Through hands-on, creative, and social activities, youth build skills, confidence, and connections.
Activities include:
Gardening
Art, music, and crafts
Group projects that promote self-expression and collaboration
La Academia centers joy, creativity, and cultural connection while supporting social-emotional growth and inclusion.
Support Groups
Our monthly support groups provide safe, welcoming spaces for parents, caregivers, siblings, and youth with disabilities to connect, share experiences, and support one another.
Support groups are offered both virtually and in person, allowing families to participate in ways that best meet their needs. These groups foster mutual learning, emotional support, and a sense of belonging.
Conferences
Each year, El Grupo Vida hosts an Annual Conference focused on youth with disabilities, siblings, parents, caregivers, and professionals. Our conference brings together families, advocates, and service providers to share knowledge, build skills, and strengthen collaboration.
Conference topics include disability inclusion, transition planning, advocacy strategies, education, healthcare, and community leadership.
Cultural & Social Activities
We host cultural and social gatherings that celebrate community, tradition, and togetherness. These events create meaningful opportunities for families to connect in relaxed, joyful environments.
Examples of activities include:
Community picnics
Posadas
Mother’s Day celebrations
Thanksgiving gatherings
Other cultural and seasonal events
These activities honor cultural traditions while strengthening relationships among families.
El Grupo Vida supports immigrants with disabilities and their families through culturally responsive services, community connection, and direct advocacy—so every person can be seen, included, and empowered.
